Alhamdulillah Al-Taqwa College has won the Judges Choice for documentary award for our entry “Hear in My Shoes” in the Focus on Ability International Short Film Festival in Sydney! Congratulations to all at Al-Taqwa College who helped in producing the documentary and being selected as winners in our first year entering the competition. Also big thanks to the community for their immense support and our budding star Saida, a student in Grade 1.
Thank you Nova Employment and Focus on Ability for providing this important platform to raise further awareness of people with disabilities and also, more importantly, their abilities to overcome challenges in their everyday life. At Al-Taqwa College, we have a student support department on board that looks after the well-being of students in our school with special needs whether it be through training teachers or integration aide and speech therapist support. We understand the importance of building a school community that is educated on the needs of students with disabilities. As this was our first entry into the competition we are humbled that we were chosen out of about 70 entrants around Australia in the documentary category.
