Al-Taqwa College has entered a Primary Short Film Competition to show what multiculturalism means to us by exploring the theme – ‘This is what a Victorian looks like’. We are delighted to say that The Victorian Multicultural Commission has selected our film as a winning entry! Our adorable and talented Grade 1 and 2 media stars will be presented an award by the Chair of the Victorian Multicultural Commission, Helen Kapalos during an upcoming awards ceremony. We look forward to this day, in the meantime please share the below video with your students.
The winning film will also be displayed at a special temporary exhibition in the Discovery Centre at the Immigration Museum on Sunday 24 March through to Sunday 31 March 2019.
On behalf of the Media Department we would like to say a special thank you to Miriam and Nafees for all your assistance and to the wonderful teachers of these students for your support — great things can’t be achieved without such teamwork.
You, Me, We are Victorian
When we think of Victorians we think of different cultures, ethnic backgrounds and religions. This short video tells a story of friendship, acceptance and appreciation of Victorians’ unique attributes.
Watch how our lower primary (Fnd-2) students go on a mission to discover what a ‘real Victorian looks like’. As they visit iconic locations in the State of Victoria, they realise through the interactions they have that Victoria is made of individuals who are unique and precious.
A true Victorian, is YOU, ME and US. Let’s celebrate this diversity, especially during Cultural Diversity Week March 16-24, and be proud of what we contribute to ‘what a Victorian looks like’.
“Diversity is the one true thing we have in common, celebrate it every day“- Unity in diversity
“When I see you through my eyes I know we are different, when I see you through my heart, I know we are the same”- Doe Zantamata
Surat Al-Hujraat: O mankind, we have created you from a male and female and made you into races and tribes so that you may identify one another. Surely the noblest of you, in Allah’s sight, is the one who is most pious of you. Surely Allah is All-Knowing, All- Aware. (13)
